Use of the Word "Insurance"
- Advertisements may not use the names of states or
their political subdivisions in policy names or descriptions.
- Advertisements may not imply that the insurer, policy
or certificate advertised, or any firm that may contact the consumer in
response to the ad, is connected with a governmental agency, such as the
Social Security Administration.
- Advertisements may not imply that the reader may lose
a right, or privilege, or benefits under federal, state, or local law if he or
she fails to respond to the ad.
- An insurer, adviser, broker, or other entity may not use
an address to mislead or deceive about its identity, location, or licensing
status.
- No insurer may use trade names of its insurance
policies or certificates, words so similar to the name of a governmental
agency or program that tends to confuse, deceive, or mislead prospects.
- Insurance policy ads must have the insurer's written
approval before being used.
- No insurer, agent, broker, or other entity may solicit a particular class using advertisements that state or imply that being members of the class entitles them to group or other reduced rates when the policy or certificate advertised is being sold on an individual basis at regular rates.
