SUBMITTING WINNING APPLICATIONS

Here's a checklist of suggestions for submitting winning applications:

  • Ask every question. Fill in all the blanks. Underwriters will assume that any unanswered question is important and pursue them.
  • Be sure to get especially complete and accurate information about the applicant's occupation, duties, earned income, financial situation, medical history and existing life and disability benefits.
  • Prepare your client for additional medical tests or studies, as appropriate.
  • Contact your General Agent/Trainer or Advanced Sales Specialist if you have questions about a case. If you need additional help, contact the underwriting department.
  • When inspection reports or financial documentation are required, inform the applicant.
  • In a business overhead expense case, list exact current expenses (copies of tax returns are best). The DI Proposal System includes a blank list of covered expenses that can be completed.
  • Use the "Remarks" section to make note of key information about the case that is not covered on the application.
  • Cover memos can be used to provide additional data or clarifying information about the case. For example, if medical conditions require explanation, or if you know something about the businessowners that might affect the underwriting decision, say so in writing.
