Long-term or 5-Year Occupation Riders
(4A, 3A, 2A)
The base policy total disability definition provides income for two years if the insured is unable to work in his or her regular occupation, is under the care of a physician, and is not engaged in any other gainful occupation. These riders extend the "regular occupation" definition for the benefit period (to age 67, to age 65, or 5 years). Class 2A eligible for 5-year occupation rider only.
One Cost of Living Rider
The 4 percent compounded interest (or CPI-U compounded interest, whichever is lower) cost of living rider provides a guaranteed annual increase.
Guarantee of Physical Insurability Rider
(4A, 3A, 2A)
Provides annual opportunities to buy more coverage even if the insured is medically uninsurable. The insured need only have sufficient income to qualify. The maximum amount available is a function of classification and the amount of original base benefits purchased. The Disability Income Marketing Guide (Form 8722) Rev. 3/10, explains the limits in detail. In addition, the DI proposal software automatically calculates maximums, and the "Help Screens" (F5) provide additional information.
Social Insurance Supplement Rider
(All Classes)
This rider guarantees that if Social Insurance doesn't pay, the rider will. Benefits are offset, dollar-for-dollar, by Social benefits received (Social Security, Worker's Compensation, State Cash Sickness or the like). Since more than 70% of those that apply for Social Security disability are rejected, this rider will guarantee payment at an appropriate level of total monthly benefit.
