If there is a silver lining to the EBRI survey's findings, it is that most of these same workers feel they would save more if their employers made it conducive to do so.
- More than 70 percent of the surveyed workers not currently contributing to their employer-sponsored retirement plan, said an employer matching contribution of up to five percent of their salary deferral elections would make them more likely to participate.
- Two-thirds of non-participants indicated they would be very or somewhat likely to remain in their employer's plan if automatically enrolled.
- The same majority of non-participants said they would be more likely to participate in an employer-sponsored plan if it included an investment option that automatically becomes more conservative as their retirement date approaches.
- Over half (55 percent) would like to see a feature in their 401(k) plan that automatically raises workers' contributions by a fixed amount or percentage when they receive pay increases.
