Learning Objectives
This course is all about qualified retirement plans, as well as some references to certain non-qualified plans. Besides covering the basics of qualified retirement plans (including qualified plan rules as well as types), it describes the processes of designing and installing them. Along the way, you'll be reminded of what you already know — you represent a company that provides the tools, products and expertise needed in the marketplace.
Action Assignments at the end of each section will help you build skills and begin working with clients in the retirement planning markets, so be sure and take the time necessary to master them.
The final section of this course presents a case study that will illustrate firsthand how to analyze a businessowner's situation and determine the best solution to meet his or her retirement plan need.
To get the most out of this course, we suggest that you target the following learning objectives:
- Understand the meaning and basic goals of retirement planning.
- Be familiar with the basic types of retirement plans, and the type of businesses for which each is best suited.
- Know how the tax and legal requirements associated with retirement plans, especially the federal laws known as ERISA, EGTRRA, and most recently, the Pension Protection Act, influence retirement plan decisions.
- Understand and be able to explain the individual employee decisions that are an important part of the retirement planning process.
- Know the basics of retirement plan design, installation and administration, and the role Ohio National can play in this process.
- Be able to identify the products, services and retirement planning resources that are available from Ohio National to assist you and your clients in all aspects of retirement planning.
