SECTION II: GETTING STARTED WITH SECURITIES
FINRA Series 66

The Series 66, is equivalent to taking both the Series 63 and Series 65 examinations. Like the Series 65, the Series 66 is also a criterion-based minimum competency exam, whereby a minimum passing criterion has been established and Registered Representatives who pass the exams are considered to have met the minimum competency level while those who fail do not meet the minimum competency level. To pass the Series 66, Registered Representatives have a maximum of 2 ½ hours to correctly answer at least 75 out of the 100 questions on subjects such as security rules and regulations, state laws, investment adviser laws, product education, suitability and ethics.

The Series 66 should be taken by Registered Representatives who are seeking securities registration in a state that requires the Series 63 and are seeking Investment Adviser Representative registration in a state that requires an Investment Adviser exam. It's important to remember that a Registered Representative must have already obtained a Series 7 to be able to take the Series 66. The Series 7 with the Series 66 is the most powerful combination of security licensing exams as the combination gives a Registered Representative registration as both a Registered Representative and Investment Adviser Representative.
