- Insurance assures predetermined, affordable and guaranteed costs instead of an uncertain and possibly ill-timed drain on cash flow.
- Insurance funding removes the employer's moral dilemma of cutting off a disabled employee's paychecks. If there is not a formal sick pay (salary continuation) plan in place, the employer may continue to give the employee money, but could stop at any time. Having a plan in place removes any doubt in the employee's mind as to what he or she will get and for how long.
- The tax advantages granted insured plans are attractive to the employer and employees. See "How It Works."

If you were an employer facing the choice of funding open-ended disability costs out of cash flow, surplus, personal savings or with individual disability insurance, which type of plan would you rather have? If you were an employee, in which type of plan would you rather participate?
